INDIA: In a sting operation footage that has gone viral online, Chetan Sharma, the head selector for the Indian men’s cricket team, made some scandalous revelations regarding the Indian cricket team players. India didn’t do very well in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup last year, so the former Indian bowler was fired and then put back in charge in January.
Chetan Sharma on Virat and Rohit
Chetan can be heard making alarming accusations regarding the Indian cricket team and its players in a sting operation run by Zee Media. In one of the recordings that went viral on social media after the sting operation was shown, Chetan Sharma can be heard talking about the famous incident that happened when Virat Kohli was captain of the Indian team.
When Virat opted to step down as T20I captain in December 2021, he was relieved of his ODI captaincy duties, and Rohit was named to take over. The 35-year-old Rohit was not the BCCI’s first choice to succeed Virat as the captain of the Indian squad, but he was given the position because the BCCI wanted to get rid of Virat as soon as possible, according to the head selector.
He asserted that the Indian Cricket Board used Virat’s poor performance at the time as justification for removing him from the ODI leadership position.
“We were against Virat Kohli; we weren’t supporting Rohit as a captain. Virat’s bad performance was exploited by BCCI, which relieved him of the captaincy. They shouldn’t treat the top batter in the nation in this manner. Shameful! “ Chetan Sharma made this statement during a shocking sting operation by Zee Media.
Sharma claimed that Virat had begun to regard himself as superior to the sport, which was unpopular with the board. “The BCCI and selection committee made it clear that he should reconsider his choice to step down as T20I captain. He was speaking to the media to prepare for the South African tour. Inadvertently, he brought up what happened in the selection committee. He intended to confront the former BCCI president,” explained Chetan Sharma.
Chetan Sharma on injections
About the injection controversy, Chetan Sharma stated, “Indian Cricket Team players take injections and get 100% fit even if they’re just 80% fit. These aren’t painkillers. These injections include drugs that do not show up on drug tests.”
“Jasprit Bumrah was unable to bend as he had a major injury; other than that, one or two players take injections in private and are fit to play.”
Chetan Sharma added that some elite players receive the go-ahead from the NCA even when they are not totally healthy, and the selectors then have the final say in who they choose to play.
The claims made by Chetan Sharma will have a significant influence on Indian cricket if they are proven to be accurate. Roger Binny, BCCI President, must take strong action. After this sting operation, it will be interesting to watch if BCCI fires Chetan Sharma as the top selector because these allegations are shocking.
Chetan Sharma had good relationships with players like Hardik Pandya, Rohit Sharma, and others who visited his home.
