GERMANY: Prosecutors in Bavaria think that a 23-year-old German-Iraqi woman hunted down a doppelganger on Instagram and killed her with a buddy to fake her own death.
Last August, a young woman’s bloody body was discovered in a parked Mercedes in Ingolstadt, southern Germany. At the time, Sharaban K, a 23-year-old beautician with Iraqi ancestry who lived in Munich, was named as the victim.
Sharaban K’s family members had identified the body, but an autopsy report the next day called the identification into question. Khadidja O, a 23-year-old Algerian beauty blogger from Heilbronn in the neighbouring state of Baden-Württemberg, was later identified as the victim.
In the German media, the case was referred to as the “doppelganger murder” because of the two women’s long, straight black hair, matching skin tones, and heavy makeup.
Sharaban K was arrested on remand by Bavarian police on August 19, 2022, and a 23-year-old Kosovan named Sheqir K. Officials did not publicly speculate on a reason until this week. As is common in the German court system, the victims and accused have been referred to by their first names and an initial.
In the week prior to the murder, Sharaban K, using a variety of aliases on social media sites, allegedly contacted multiple women who resembled her. Grieser claimed that she attempted to arrange meetings by making a number of promises, which she initially failed to keep.
However, Khadidja O had accepted the meeting after being seduced by what Süddeutsche Zeitung claimed was a cosmetics pitch. On the day of the murder, Sheqir K and Sharaban K allegedly picked her up from her residence via automobile.
Between Heilbronn and Ingolstadt, the accused two are suspected of inventing a reason for the Algerian woman to go off the car before fatally stabbing her.
The victim was allegedly placed in the backseat of the two people’s Mercedes before they allegedly drove to Ingolstadt and parked the vehicle in a peaceful neighborhood by the banks of the Danube, where Sharaban K’s parents found it just before midnight on August 16, 2022.
Although investigations were ongoing and other witnesses needed to be questioned, arrest warrants for Sheqir K. and Sharaban K. were issued on January 26 and 27, according to a prosecutor’s spokesperson in Ingolstadt. If found guilty, the two may receive life sentences.
