UNITED STATES: According to a criminal complaint filed in May 2020 by the Orange County District Attorney, Justin Roiland, the star and co-creator of the animated comedy series “Rick and Morty,” has been charged with felony domestic violence in Orange County, California, in connection with a 2020 incident. Attorney T. Edward Welbourn wrote in a statement that he’s looking forward to clearing Justin’s name and helping him move forward as quickly as possible.

According to the complaint, the incident occurred on or around 19th January 2020 against an anonymous woman Roiland was dating.

In October 2020, Justin Roiland pleaded not guilty to both charges, according to Orange County Superior Court records. More than a dozen court hearings, including pre-trial hearings, have been held since then. The trial date is currently unknown.

Although numerous court records remained sealed, a media outlet discovered the charges against Roiland in May 2020 from publicly available documents. In August 2020, Roiland was taken into custody, released on a $50,000 bond, and arraigned in October 2020.

Justin Roiland was prohibited from harassing, threatening, or spying on the person named in the protective order, who is unknown to media sources currently, according to a protective order filed in October 2020 and recorded in the court minutes.

The order also stipulated that Roiland be required to surrender any firearms he owned or possessed. The order prohibits Roiland from coming within 100 feet of the individual. The person who requested the order is unknown, and the order is valid until October 2023.
