INDIA: The second Test against Bangladesh, which takes place in Mirpur on 22nd December, will not include Rohit Sharma. Due to his absence from the first Test in Chattogram, the India captain will no longer travel to Dhaka.
Vice-Captain KL Rahul will lead India in his absence in the second and last Test match of the series, which India leads 1-0.
After discovering that the skipper’s thumb, which he injured during the second ODI of the current tour, has not fully healed, Rohit Sharma’s inability to play came to light on Monday, 19th December.
As per reports, Rohit Sharma appears to be experiencing some stiffness in the injured finger. The selection committee and the team management have decided not to risk Rohit Sharma at this stage in light of the significant responsibilities ahead of the Indian team.
According to speculations, Rohit Sharma, currently in Mumbai, could have batted through the Test, but there were still concerns about the risk of fielding. If he gets hurt again on that thumb, the Indian team’s management and the medical team thought it could get worse on the field.
When asked about the probability of Rohit Sharma’s availability for the subsequent Test match, KL Rahul said he was awaiting further details on the Mumbaikar’s fitness.
During the press conference after the conclusion of the first test match on Sunday, the Vice-Captain said he was unaware of Rohit Sharma’s fitness. However, he added that he would know more about the situation in a day or two.
The immediate impression is that Rohit Sharma will be available for the white ball series against Sri Lanka, which begins on 3rd January and will consist of three T20Is and three ODIs.
On 7th December, Rohit was rushed to Mumbai for treatment after the BCCI medical team assessed him and gave him a thumb injury while attempting to catch the ball in the slips. Since then, he has been receiving treatment in the city.
Since selecting a player to leave out would have been difficult, Rohit’s absence may have solved a significant selection problem for the team management before the second Test.
India won the first Test by 188 runs, led by Shubman Gill’s maiden Test hundred, while KL Rahul flopped as an opener but proved quite handy as the stand-in captain.
In the meantime, on Monday morning, the Indian team left Chattogram to travel to Dhaka. Before the Test begins on Thursday, 22nd December, they will practice for two days.
