IFFI 2022: Spanish Film ‘I Have Electric Dreams’ Bags the Golden Peacock Award

INDIA. Mumbai: The Spanish Film, I Have Electric Dreams (Tengo sueños eléctricos) excelled at the 53rd International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2022 in Goa on Monday. Costa Rican filmmaker Valentina Maurel’s directorial feature bagged the prestigious Golden Peacock Award.

Goa witnessed the prestigious film festival, IFFI 2022 from November 20 to November 28. The closing ceremony was organized at the Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Stadium, Dona Paula, in Goa on Monday.

I Have Electric Dreams received the Best Film Award at IFFI 2022. The Spanish film explores 16-year-old girl Eva’s passage into adulthood, a process that is not just about getting older, a profound process that occasionally has the power to break people in particular ways.

Benoit Roland and Gregoire Debailly bankrolled the film. Actress Daniela Marin Navarro (19) received the Best actor award. In the film, the jury found an honest portrait of the complexity of life. “It was so electrifying, so vibrating, that while watching it, we felt as if we, ourselves, were trembling,” the jury remarked.

The awards were given by Union Minister for Information & Broadcasting, Anurag Singh Thakur, in the presence of Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and veteran actress Asha Parekh. Thakur said that this year, around 282 films were screened, which amounted to nearly 3,500 minutes of viewing time. 

“We showed 183 foreign films, 97 Indian films in a total of 15 Indian and 65 foreign languages from 78 different nations. We have ventured into new and deeper waters, whether it is building a technology center or collaborating on inventions,” he added.

IFFI 2022 witnessed the talented filmmakers receiving the prestigious title

Famous Iranian writer-director, Nader Saiwar, bagged the Silver Peacock Award in the Best Director category for his film “No End.” Similarly, the Silver Peacock Award for Best Actor went to Vahid Mobusseri, the lead actor in that film.

Special Jury Award: Filipino director Love Diaz-When the Waves are Gone (Kapag wala nang mga alon). 

Best Debut Director Award: Asimina Prodrew-Behind the Haystacks (Athens, Greece). 

Special Mention Award: Praveen Kandregula, the Telugu film Cinemabandi (India).

Payam Eskandar directorial “Nargesi,” won the ICFT. UNESCO. Gandhi Medal, while Chiranjeevi recieved the Indian Personality of the year. 

The Spanish film director, Carlos Saura, was honored with the prestigious Satyajit Ray Lifetime Achievement award.

The Jury for International Competition was headed by Israeli writer and film director Nadav Lapid. Other jury members were, American producer Jinko Gotoh, French film editor Pascale Chavance, French documentary filmmaker, film critic, and journalist Javier Angulo Barturen and Indian film director Sudipto Sen.

Bollywood actors Ayushmann Khurrana, Akshay Kumar, Esha Gupta, Sharman Joshi, Manushi Chillar, and Telugu stars Chiranjeevi and Rana Dagubatti were some of the names who walked the red carpet for the closing ceremony.
