UNITED STATES: Beginning late on Sunday, Elon Musk began firing more employees from the sales department of Twitter Inc., drastically reducing a staff that had already been ravaged by layoffs and resignations.

Musk had previously threatened to fire anyone who refused to join his “hardcore” version of the business.

According to people familiar with the situation, more salespeople agreed with his vision than technical personnel, who experienced widespread resignations.

According to the people who asked not to be named because they were discussing internal matters, Musk is using the reductions to balance out the remaining employees.

Musk and Chris Riedy, the new head of sales at Twitter, attended an all-hands meeting on Sunday, according to multiple sources. There will be additional cuts, several workers showed up hoping to hear something about them.

Musk used the time to discuss recent developments, including his choice to reactivate Donald Trump’s account.

Another person with knowledge of the conversation claims that he also said the business needed to improve the targeting of its advertisements to specific users. Layoffs were not discussed at the meeting.

According to one insider, an internal tally of employees now shows 2,750, although some resignations and job losses may still be being counted.

Before Elon Musk took over in late October, more than 7,000 people were working at Twitter.

Elon Musk has also postponed indefinitely the introduction of the updated Twitter Blue membership due to the labour shortage.

He has earlier stated that he would launch on November 29. In a tweet, Musk said he’s delaying the debut because he doesn’t have faith in the platform’s ability to avoid imitation.

“Holding off on relaunching Blue Verified until there is a great assurance that impersonation will be stopped. Businesses are likely to use a different colour check than individuals,” he said.
