Shah Rukh Khan’s Bodyguard Detained by the Customs at Mumbai Airport

He was made to pay customs duty on luxury watch and watch winders

INDIA. Mumbai: Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan’s bodyguard Ravi Singh, who was part of Khan’s team which returned from Sharjah, UAE, was detained and made to pay customs duty on certain goods by Mumbai Customs on Saturday.

Khan and his five-member team landed at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport after midnight on Friday.

The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of the Mumbai Customs detained Khan’s bodyguard Ravi Singh who was asked to pay Rs 6.88 lakh as custom duty ( 38.5 percent of the dutiable goods worth Rs 17.86 lakh), officials said.

The team was carrying 6-7 bags which were screened by security. The bags contained many watch winders (specialised cases used for luxury watches) and one Apple watch, for which the team had no receipt.

The team declared the goods as “gifts”. Singh reportedly paid the duty using Khan’s credit card.

Khan returned to India by a chartered plane after attending a function at an international book fair-2022 in Sharjah. He was honoured with the “Global Icon of Cinema and Cultural Narrative Award” for his contribution as the International Icon of Cinema and Culture.

Khan was accompanied by his manager Pooja Dadlani and others. While they were allowed to go, his team members were detained by the AIU.

Khan and his team arrived at the General Aviation (GA) terminal at around 12.30 pm. Unlike Terminal II, where there are different color-coded channels for different types of passengers and their duty-related screenings.

The GA terminal has no separate classification, which offers specialized and tailored services to accommodate VIP, CIP, Diplomats, and Medical Evacuation flights.
