UNITED STATES: Prior to the November 8 midterm elections, a number of U.S. Senate Democrats raised concerns about a lack of election workers, citing intimidation and threats as obstacles to hiring essential staff.
13 Senate Democrats and two Democratic-aligned independents demanded that the federal agency boost efforts to assist states in hiring employees needed to run next month’s midterm elections in a letter sent to the U.S. Election Assistance Commission on October 6.
In contests for Congress, governorships, and numerous other state and municipal seats, voters will cast ballots throughout the country.
Republicans hope to take back control of the United States House of Representatives and perhaps even the Senate, which are now tightly held by Democrats.
The letter mentioned that states like Texas had to close polling places because of a staffing shortage.
Since former president Donald Trump started spreading false accusations about widespread election fraud in the run-up to the 2020 election, threats against poll workers have drastically increased.
Since then, his allegations have been disproved in many court cases, impartial audits, and even by Trump’s Department of Justice.
