UNITED STATES: Superman, the iconic superhero from DC Comics, is celebrating his 85th anniversary this year.
DC first introduced the character in Action Comics #1, published on April 18, 1938, and he has since become a pop culture icon, inspiring numerous adaptations and spin-offs in various forms of media.
The original creators of Superman were Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, who came up with the idea for the character while still in high school.
The creators initially envisioned Superman as a villain who used his powers for personal gain. Still, they later reworked the character to become a hero who fought for truth, justice, and the American way.
Superman’s origin story is well known to fans: he was born on Krypton, but his parents sent him to Earth in a rocket ship just before the planet’s destruction.
He was discovered and adopted by the Kents, a farmer couple from Smallville, Kansas, who named him Clark and raised him as their son.

One of the earliest and most successful adaptations was the Adventures of Superman radio show, which aired from 1940 to 1951 and starred Bud Collyer as Superman.
The show introduced many elements of Superman’s mythology that would become staples of the character, such as his vulnerability to kryptonite and his secret identity as Clark Kent.
Superman also made his way to the big screen in a series of successful movies starring Christopher Reeve as the Man of Steel.
The first film, released in 1978, was directed by Richard Donner and was a critical and commercial success, grossing over $300 million worldwide.
The film received praise for its faithful adaptation of Superman’s origin story and Reeve’s charming and charismatic character portrayal.
