NIGERIA. Niger State: 300 amputees in Niger state will be provided with artificial limbs to aid their movement and reduce their sufferings.
The provision of the artificial limb is a project of the Niger state government in collaboration with Ishk Tolaram and Raise Foundation.
Flagging off the programme at the IBB Specialist Hospital in Minna, the Niger State Commissioner for Health, Dr Mohammed Makusidi said that the exercise was aimed at improving the ability and performance of the beneficiaries.
Cost of the Artificial Limb
He said that an artificial limb cost about N300,000 and the majority of those affected do not have the resources to get it for themselves.
He stated that the government responded because of cries for appeal from the people who were infected.
Makunsidi said that those who would benefit would include those affected either with their upper or lower limbs accidentally or surgically removed.
The Partners
The Commissioner appreciated the organizations that partnered with the Ministry, Ishk Tolaram and Raise Foundations, for their contribution to the provision of the artificial limbs.
He said that the help of the two foundations in partnering with the ministry to provide such healthcare service to the beneficiaries.
He called on other individuals and organizations to support the government in coming to the aid of the vulnerable and less privileged in the society.

Raise Foundation
The Chief Operating Officer of Raise Foundation, Mrs Toyin Daudu said the foundation is intervening because it is well known that government cannot take care of all the challenges in the health sector alone, hence the need for external hands.
She said her foundation works with women, children and other vulnerable groups across the state.
She said that the measurement for the artificial limbs would be taken to Lagos for fabrication by Ishk Tolaram.
Toyin said the limbs which would be returned by March will be closely monitored by Raise Foundation
