UNITED STATES: The James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) recently began its first year-long mission to study the universe and captured the galaxy SPT-S J041839-4751.8. It is located at a distance of 12 billion light years from us. Its coloured image was posted on the web by one of the research participants.
The main feature of this galaxy is the circular structure that surrounds it. This is the so-called Einstein Ring, which is a kind of optical illusion. The MIRI detector on the space telescope took the picture. The incident was also spotted with the help of the potent NIRCAM detector on the James Webb Space Telescope.
The James Webb Space Telescope is continuously taking unique images of the cosmos. Space telescopes have also been able to highlight some amazing universe characteristics through these photos.
Einstein rings
But we have to appreciate a Reddit member named Spaceguy44 for this fantastic photo. He could describe Einstein’s ring’s shape accurately after post-processing. This Reddit member took the picture from the Space Telescope Science Institute’s archives. Such vibrant elements of Einstein’s colour are brought to attention by employing unique filters.
The James Webb Space Telescope uses three distinct filters. The red one is an F1000W filter that absorbs light with a 10 m wavelength.
The F560W filter, which covers the 5.6 m wavelength, is the colour blue, and the F770W filter, which covers the 7.7 m wavelength, is the colour green. These pictures were taken by Reddit user Spaceguy44, who then used GIMP to combine and colour them using Astropy.
Surprisingly, the James Webb telescope has already recorded another Einstein ring for SPT-S J041839-4751.8. A similar Einstein ring was captured by the James Webb Space Telescope a few weeks ago in August. But unlike the last image, which SpaceGuy44 painted, this one has a much more detailed appearance.
