UNITED STATES/INDIA: On Wednesday afternoon, numerous bugs were reported by Facebook users.Around 4 pm AEST, website tracker DownDetector.com.au detected an outage on the significant social networking platform.
Many of the random posts to celebrities that users saw on their feeds came from sites they hadn’t even followed, according to users.
40% of users have complained about the newsfeed, and 16% have complained about the website as a whole. 43% of users have reported problems with the app.
There is currently no evidence to imply that the website has been hacked, and Facebook has not officially confirmed any downtime or issue with the website.
Cheeky users have already started introducing themselves to the larger Facebook group by leveraging the glitch.
It didn’t take much time for the issue to blow up and the profiles of Deepika Padukone, Tom Cruise, Rihanna, Sachin Tendulkar, Gordon Ramsay and many others were constantly being spammed. I don’t know, but I want to try it too, bye!, one Facebook user wrote to Adele. Another user wrote,“Hi mom, I’m famous.”
After being accused of violating user privacy, Meta, the firm in charge of Facebook, settled for $54 million in the US before the bug appeared. The argument centred on a claim that the platform had been secretly following users’ movements on their smartphones.
There have been allegations that Facebook violated Californian law by collecting information from users whose phones had previously been set to not use location services and that the website instead used users’ IP addresses to determine their locations.
Needless to say, some people who were tired of the spam took to Twitter to find out exactly what happened. And they didn’t leave without creating some rib-tickling memes. The hashtags #facebookdown and #facebookdown were trending on Twitter.
From describing the anxious state of Facebook employees to joking about people visiting other social media platforms after the Facebook glitch, netizens had a wide range of memes to share.
