INDIA: The most versatile and promising actor in Indian cinema, Anupam Kher, opened up on the boycott trend. The Kashmir Files actor talked about why Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha failed at the box office.
Advait Chandan’s directorial Laal Singh Chaddha is the Hindi remake of the 1994 Robert Zemeckis’s Forrest Gump, starring Tom Hanks. The Bollywood featurette grabbed huge controversy on its release.
Aamir Khan’s remake film debuted on August 11, 2022, during the holiday weekend. The movie opened to big screens competing with Akshay Kumar’s Raksha Bandhan. Despite the holiday release, the film fell flat at the box office and could not even cross ₹50 crores in its opening weekend.
Therefore Anupam Kher, in his interview with the media, said, “Laal Singh Chaddha was not a great film. If it was a great film, then no power would’ve stopped it. Aamir Khan’s PK worked well.”
“The key is that you must acknowledge the truth; I am not in favour of boycott trends; nonetheless, you cannot prevent someone from doing what they want. However, if your product is good, it will find an audience. In fact they’ll go with a vengeance. And the only way to stop this tendency is to execute outstanding work,” he added.
The B-town veteran straightway commented on the movie, saying, “Laal Singh Chaddha was not a great film”. Besides Laal Singh Chaddha, the recent movies which faced the Boycott motion are Ayan Mukerji’s Brahmastra and Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan. However, Pathaan performed phenomenally at the box office.
On the work front, Anupam Kher will be next seen in Kangana Ranaut’s directorial Emergency. He will also star in The Signature and Anurag Basu’s Metro…In Dino. Recently, the trailer of Vidyut Jammwal and Anupam Kher’s IB71 also bagged a trailer.
