UKRAINE: As both factions of the warring divide, Russia and Ukraine, pointed fingers at each other for the weekend shelling on the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, which resulted in global alarm, Ukraine has now reported intense Russian shelling across the frontlines on Tuesday on both sides.

Heavy artillery fighting was reported in the frontline towns near the eastern city of Donetsk, where Ukrainian officials were confronted with the Russian offensive as the latter attempted to subdue and control the industrialised Donbas region.

Donetsk regional Governor Pavlo Kyrylenko told Ukrainian television, “The situation in the region is tense- shelling is constant throughout the frontline…The enemy is also using the airstrikes a great deal.” He also added, “The enemy is having no success. Donetsk region is holding.”

As a retaliatory stance, Ukrainian troops have captured the town of Dovhenke, around Kharkiv in the northeast, from Russia. They are advancing towards Izium, per reports from Ukrainian Presidential adviser Oleksiy Arestovych in a YouTube video.

Ukraine’s general military staff has revealed details from a daily battlefield report, signifying that towns in the north, southeast and east of Kharkiv had come under attack from tanks, military and rockets.

“The situation is very interesting. Ukraine’s forces are moving very successfully. Attempts by Russia to regain lost ground were not successful. Ukraine may end up encircling them,” Arestovych said.

In the southeast, Ukrainian forces targeted the key Antonovskyi bridge over the Dnipro River in the Kherson region, again trying to disrupt Russian supply lines.

Yuri Sobolevsky, deputy head of the Kherson regional council ousted by Russian occupation forces, said on Telegram the bridge had been seriously damaged after “overnight actions”. However, the sources were unable to verify the reports.
