CHINA/TAIWAN: China charged military drills for restoring an attack on Taiwan. The Chinese aircraft and ships carried out heavy shelling and missiles over Taiwan’s main island. Meanwhile, states like Australia, the US, and Japan has urged China to immediately refrain from its military exercises over Taiwan and maintain peace and stability.
The Taiwan President took to his Twitter to announce the gravity; he wrote, “Our government and military are closely monitoring China’s military exercises and information warfare operations, ready to respond as necessary. I call on the international community to support democratic Taiwan and halt any escalation of the regional security situation.”
In a post, the Taiwan Defence Ministry revealed that twenty People’s Liberation Army aircraft and fourteen vessels restricted an air-sea operation in the surrounding area of the Republic of China. The Taiwan Defence ministry confirmed that China is imposing an attack on its territory.
Meanwhile, a joint statement has been issued by US, Australia and Japan stating: “The Secretary and the Foreign Ministers reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait. They appreciated ASEAN’s statement about the importance of de-escalating tension in the Taiwan Strait…They condemned the PRC’s launch of ballistic missiles, five of which the Japanese government reported landed in its exclusive economic zones, raising tension and destabilising the region…(They) urged the PRC.”
The entire statement was made in Phnom Penh, on the margins of the 55th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ meeting, by the US Secretary of State Tony Blinken, Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong, and Japanese Foreign Minister Hayashi Yoshimasa.
This is a clear ultimatum for China and other countries not to bring out a more significant crisis over Taiwan while defending unrivalled military drills.
