NIGERIA. Abuja: President Muhammadu Buhari has once again urged the Nigerian military to put an end to the country’s lingering crisis of terrorism, banditry, and insurgency.
Buhari, in a statement issued through his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, in response to the recent attack on Sokoto, Kaduna, and Plateau communities, described insecurity in the country as “Madness” that must end.
The statement, titled “President Buhari condemns barbaric attacks in Kaduna, Plateau, and Sokoto, condoles bereaved families,” demonstrates how dissatisfied the president is with the ongoing issue of terrorism under his watch.
Kaduna, Sokoto and Plateau states attacks
According to reports, terrorists kidnapped at least 50 people in Damari, Birnin-Gwari local government area of Kaduna state earlier this week. Hundreds of others were also displaced.
When terrorist groups and members of the villanteer group clashed in Plateau state’s Wase local government area, 18 people were reported killed.
Meanwhile, in Duma village, Tureta local government area, Sokoto state, 26 people were reportedly drowned while attempting to flee for fear of being shot by security personnel and bandits.
Following these unfortunate incidents, Buhari stated on Tuesday that his government has long issued the security forces the full force to eliminate insurgency in Nigeria.
“I strongly condemn these heinous attacks on the country. I would like to assure the states of the federation’s full support. My heart goes out to the bereaved families.” May those who have been injured recover quickly,” Buhari said in a statement.
Buhari, on the other hand, urged Nigerians to remain calm and persistent in their prayers to end the country’s insecurity.
