WHO Proclaim Monkeypox As the “Public Health Emergency Of International Concern”

More than 16,000 people are affected with the Monkey outbreak, WHO calls it a Global emergency

INDIA: The monkeypox outbreak became a global concern amid an increasing number of cases. The World Health Organization declared Monkeypox a top-echelon of alert. During a media rundown in Geneva, the Director-General of WHO Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus labelled the outbreak as a “public health emergency of international concern”.

More than 16,000 cases were reported in the past few weeks, including five deaths. More than 75 countries are affected by the emerging disease especially, Europe which is now the core of the outbreak. This disease is mostly affecting gay men who indulge in ‘Sodomy’

Presently, ‘public health emergency of international concern’ is focused on the covid pandemic and the ongoing case of polio. This is an awakening alarm for laboratories to start vaccine trials with the help of global funding. 

WHO’s chief Tedros says, “We have an outbreak that has spread around the world rapidly, through new modes of transmission, about which we understand too little, adding more to it he said, “For all of these reasons, I have decided that the global monkeypox outbreak represents a public health emergency of international concern.”

World Health Organisation Declaration About Monkeypox

Monkeypox is transmitted to humans through close contact with an infected person or animal, or with material that came in contact with the virus. Monkeypox typically presents clinically with fever, rash and swollen lymph nodes and may lead to a range of medical complications.

It usually gets transmitted via close contact with lesions, body fluids, respiratory droplets and contaminated materials such as bedding. Monkeypox is usually a self-limited disease with symptoms lasting from 2 to 4 weeks. Severe cases occur more commonly among children and are related to the extent of virus exposure, patient health status and nature of complications.
