INDIA: The colossal movie Shamshera doesn’t seem to perform well at the box office. Karan Malhotra’s directorial film fabricated hype amongst the audience, but the release failed to live up to the expectations. This Ranbir Kapoor comeback movie worked reasonably well, receiving an opening day lower than Samrat Prithviraj. The high-budget film released on over 4350 screens, still accumulated around Rs 10 crore on the first release day. The YRF’s banner movie was budgeted for around Rs 150cr.
The mega project will face difficulties sustaining its charm in the coming days because of the poor screenplay and repeated story lining. This movie is Ranbir Kapoor’s comeback movie, and fans anticipated more from him which he managed to essay well as “Balli and Shamshera”, but the poor dialogues and screen timing made it blunt.
On the other hand, Vaani Kapoor plays the role of both the protagonist’s girlfriend and wife, which eventually looked entertaining but not extraordinary. Talking about the antagonist Sanjay Dutt, his role in the movie is recurring, as in Agneepath and KGF 2.
Shamshera is a periodic movie focusing more on the cast discrimination with no real validation. The movie received fewer positive reviews from movie critics. Film trade analyst Komal Nahta took to his Twitter and continued to criticise the movie by writing, “Dull Shamshera opening plunges the already nervous Hindi film trade into a further state of panic! Unfortunately, collections of the big films are small! Adding more into it, “Another big film… but the same story continues! Shows of Shamshera in the morning and noon/afternoon at some cinemas cancelled due to absence of an audience.”
This would be YRF’s third flop this year if Shamshera didn’t do well at the box office. Previously, Samrat Prithviraj and Jayeshbhai Jordaar faced huge losses at the box office.
