UNITED KINGDOM: England’s all-rounder Ben Stokes announced his retirement from One Day Internationals on Monday. He declared that his final game would be the opening ODI against South Africa on Tuesday, July 19. Stokes decided to limit his effort because he believes that playing all three formats at once is currently unsustainable for him.

“I’ll play my last ODI cricket match for England on Tuesday in Durham. I’ve decided to no longer play this format. This decision has been highly challenging to make. Playing with my buddies and representing England has been a complete thrill for me.” Stokes said that the voyage had been remarkable.

Ben Stokes has appeared in 104 One Day Internationals (ODI) and amassed 2919 runs at an average of 39.45. The 2019 ODI World Cup was won by England thanks to his flawless 84 against New Zealand in the final at Lord’s.

In his lengthy ODI career, Stokes has produced some outstanding performances. But now that his body is failing him, he finds playing in all three formats challenging.

“For me, three formats are no longer workable. In addition to my body failing me due to the pace and demands imposed on us, I am also denying Jos and the rest of the team a player who can give their all because of this. As I did throughout the previous 11 years, it’s time for another cricketer to grow and forge incredible memories,” He observed.

He stated that he would give his all in the T20Is and Tests and would work to help England win in both of those competitions. “I’ll give Test cricket everything I’ve got, and now that I’ve made this choice, I feel like I can also give the T20 format all I’ve got,” he continued.
