NIGERIA. Jigawa State: A torrential downpour in Jigawa state’s Kafin-Hausa local government region caused about six people to pass away and 65 others to suffer injuries of varying severity.
Numerous homes were inundated, while other properties were demolished during the storm, which started about 18:00 GMT and lasted for a few hours.
Yusuf Sani, the director of the state’s emergency management agency, told reporters that representatives from the federal disaster management had been dispatched to the location of the tragedy to assist in the rescue of the victims.
While the rescue squad continues to look for survivors, Sani noted that it is yet unknown how many families are affected. “Before the government will give them aid, those affected have been urged to find temporary shelter with their relatives. We cannot give the exact number of affected houses and other damages as the rescue team is still on the assessment mission.”
Similar to how torrential rain in Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State caused flooding, which took seven lives in Lagos.
Three siblings and four additional individuals from the Oke Isagun, Agbado Oke, and Oko LCDA communities are impacted.
Ibrahim Farinloye, the South-West coordinator for the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), claims that four other adults and three children from the same family perished in the incident that happened on Friday, July 8 and Saturday, July 9.
Four youngsters, aged 17, 18, and 14, said to have been washed away by water while attempting to flee for their lives but were supposedly saved, are among the other flood victims.
