An FIR has been registered in Bhopal against MP Mohua under section 295A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for inflicting religious sentiments. The Congress leader reportedly remarked Goddess Kali was “meat-eating” and “alcohol-accepting”. Moitra’s controversial statement shortly seized fire.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan showed zero tolerance towards this statement and said Hindu religious sentiments had been tampered with by Moitra’s statement, reflecting a direct insult to Hindu deities.

Followed by the booked complainants, Moitra boldly said: “Bring it on, BJP! Am a Kali worshipper. I am not afraid of anything. Not your ignoramuses. Not your goons. Not your police. And most certainly not your trolls. Truth doesn’t need backup forces.”

In a tweet, the TMC party made their statement clear by writing that any form of a statement given by their MP is a direct reflection of her beliefs “and are NOT ENDORSED BY THE PARTY in ANY MANNER OR FORM”. This proves that TMC is not in any mood to entertain any sort of controversy.

The controversy began due to filmmaker Leena Manimekalai’s documentary ‘Kaali’. The flyer of the movie shows a woman dressed in a costume portraying Goddess Kali smoking.

On the other hand, Congress MP Abhishek Singhvi seems to be in a very defensive mode. Singhvi made a statement, “We won’t like to comment on other parties, but I believe that a certain level of dignity should be maintained in symbols and essence of our faith. The heart and spirit of our culture cannot be treated lightly by anybody anywhere, be it elsewhere, abroad or here.”
