INDIA: The IMD declared an orange alert over Goa till Saturday. In the last 5 years it was the heaviest rainfall in Goa. Expected heavy rainfall of 11.5cm, previously 156mm recorded from 8.30 am on Monday till Tuesday morning. It is a big concern for all residents dealing with the heavy rainfall. The beach beauty received 1,203mm (47.4 inches) of rainfall, 13% compared to last year. As the monsoon hits the state, it is expected to have higher rainfall than usual in the upcoming days.
As per reports, IMD scientist Rahul M. A says, low-pressure areas over Madhya Pradesh, northwest Bay of Bengal, and an offshore area along the west coast are likely to increase the rain flows over Konkan and Goa. All places observe heavy rainfall, with a record of 125mm and 195mm till 8.30 am on Tuesday. Sanguem, with 222.2mm in a day along with Mapusa with 195mm and Ela (Old Goa) with 174.2 mm. Apart from that, Panaji received the lowest rainfall of 125.8mm.
It is believed that Kerala is over the monsoon trap. Monsoon is now in the entire Indian subcontinent by July 2. The paradise state received slow to moderate rainfall at various places and heavy rainfall at remote locations on Sunday. Most rain gauge stations like Pernem and Canacona received intense rainfall, with Pernem recording 10cm and Canacona recording 9cm. The east and northeast India exceed 48% rainfall, whereas the central India region has the most significant deficit of 48%, followed by northwest India (33%) and peninsular India (22%).
According to Rahul M, “There could still be numerous occasions when the daily average rainfall has exceeded today’s value.” “The mid-monsoon months of July and August are also incidentally peak monsoon months, which contribute 61% of the seasonal total, so the rainfall during these months can make or break the fate of the monsoon rainfall amounts of the various meteorological subdivisions,” said MR Ramesh Kumar, meteorologist and retired NIO scientist.
