Greenko Signs MoU with IIT Hyderabad to Set Up School of Sustainable Science & Technology

INDIA: In order to establish India’s first specialised school for sustainable science and technology, IIT Hyderabad and Greenko, India’s top provider of energy transition and industrial decarbonization solutions, inked a Memorandum of Understanding.

The Greenko School of Sustainable Science and Technology (GSSST) was established to bridge the growing gaps in research, instruction, and expertise brought on by the requirements of sustainable development. The following major thrust areas are where the school will advance knowledge:

  • 1Mitigation of climate change
  • Robo-AI and space technology
  • Industrial transformation and the energy transition
  • Economy that is circular and regenerative
  • ZeroC materials, methods, fuels, and products
  • Clusters that are net-zero and industrial ecology

By the end of this year, GSSST will open, and by June 2023, it will begin accepting students for its BTech and MTech programmes in sustainable science and technology. Other IITs, engineering schools, and later polytechnics and universities will be able to reproduce the knowledge learned at GSSST.

With this combined effort, Greenko’s innovative plan to expedite R&D and contextualise education and skills for sustainable development is supported by the nation’s educational establishment.

To guarantee that GSSST both complies with and enhances the teaching of sustainable science and technology, Greenko consults with the Ministry of Education, AICTE, NCERT, and NCVET.

Congratulating IIT Hyderabad on the occasion, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, Hon’ble Union Minister of Education, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, said, “India cannot just be a consuming nation. We must innovate and establish our own models for achieving self-sufficiency as well as for furthering global welfare. In the 21st century, technology is available to ease our job, and NEP 2020 has given us the liberty to take advantage of local language with available technology.”

The Minister added: “India is going to play a leading role in the fourth industrial revolution and IIT Hyderabad will play a major role in building brand India globally and in carving out a better and prosperous future, especially during the AmritKaal. We have to fulfil the Prime Minister’s vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat.”

Speaking on the occasion, Anil Chalamalasetty, Founder, CEO & MD, Greenko Group, said, “The Government of India, under the leadership of Honorable PM Narendra Modi, has positioned India as a leader globally in climate change mitigation and energy transition as set out in the Paris Climate Accords. The commitment to build the technologies and skills in India for our country to attain leadership in sustainability and energy transition led to this opportunity with IITH. I would also like to thank Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, Honorable Minister of Education and Minister of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Government of India.”

Chalamalasetty added: “Greenko is honored to partner with IITH, a reputed institute, and focus on reconfiguring existing global energy transition technologies to improve efficiencies, economics, and employment in emerging economies. GSSST aims to be the knowledge and human resource powerhouse for driving decarbonization and sustainable development, and will pursue twinning arrangements with globally reputed research and educational institutes.”

Greenko Group

Greenko Group is One of the biggest providers of decarbonization and energy transition solutions globally is Greenko Group. With almost 10 GW of projects in the pipeline, Greenko has a total installed renewable energy capacity of 7.5 GW, including wind, solar, and hydropower.

Over the past ten years, Greenko has invested over US$7.5 billion, raised US$5.0 billion in global green bonds, and has more than US$2.5 billion in equity. 18 BUs (1.5% of total energy production in India) are currently produced by Greenko.

Greenko is constructing a smart, least expensive “energy cloud storage platform” with a capacity of 50 GWh that will be operational by 2025 and increase to 100 GWh by 2027, as well as green hydrogen production systems with a capacity of 10 GW by 2030.

The Government Investment Corporation (GIC) of Singapore and the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA) of Abu Dhabi, UAE, along with Orix Corporation of Japan and the company’s founders, Anil Chalamalasetty & Mahesh Kolli, comprise the majority of ownership in Greenko.
