NIGERIA. Niger State: The Aiteo Cup Competition for this year was won by the Niger Tornadoes Football Club of Minna, the seat of Niger state. A competition was held by the Niger state government to find young football potential at the grassroots level.
Aiteo Competition was once known as the “challenge Cup,” but according to the Club’s Media Officer, Alhassan Mohammed Kutigi, it was renamed in honour of its new sponsors, the integrated, globally-oriented Nigerian energy corporation Aiteo Group. Exploration and production of oil and gas are the company’s main priorities.
Aiteo Competition is an annual football tournament played by a few licensed football clubs in the state, according to Kutigi.
The league this year featured 11 clubs in all, and the final played at Minna’s Bako Kontagora Memorial Stadium, saw Niger Tornadoes defeat Niger Tornadoes Feeders by a solitary goal.
