INDIA. Gujarat: On Wednesday, a wall at a salt packaging factory in Gujarat’s Morbi district collapsed, killing at least 12 workers. According to state Labour and Employment Minister and local MLA Brijesh Merja, the incident occurred at the Sagar Salt factory, which is located within the Halvad industrial area.
“Efforts to rescue others who may have been trapped beneath the debris are still underway,” he said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi described the tragedy in his home state as “heartbreaking” and stated that local authorities are assisting the victims in any way possible.
“The tragedy in Morbi caused by a wall collapse is heart-rending. In this hour of grief, my thoughts are with the bereaved families. May the injured recover soon. Local authorities are providing all possible assistance to the affected,” PM Modi tweeted.
He also announced that the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) would provide Rs 2 lakh to the relatives of those who died in Morbi. The injured will be compensated with Rs 50,000.
Rajasthan’s Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.
