UNITED STATES: Transformers and Lego have been adapted for live-action numerous times, but it is now time for the Beyblade toy franchise to be adapted for a giant screen in Hollywood. According to Deadline, producer Jerry Bruckheimer and Paramount Pictures are working on a live-action feature based on the big toy series Beyblade. Neil Widener and Gavin James will pen the screenplay, although storyline details are being kept under wraps for the time being.
Beyblade is a throwback to the generation of the early 2000s
Takara’s Beyblade brand of spinning tops was initially released in Japan in July 1999. Every toy franchise in the 1990s and 1980s had a plan for popularising their products through animated series or live-action adaptations, and Beyblade followed suit in 2001 by airing a full-fledged anime series with the same title. It was an instant hit with kids after its release, and it is often regarded as the second most popular phenomenon after Pokémon.
The Beyblade series was so popular that it had spawned a slew of sequels. Tyson Granger, a young passionate child, enchanted with a dedication for Beyblading, establishes the Beladebreakers squad with his fellow companions in the original series. The majority of the series focused on their adventures as they competed in several Beyblade championships.
The trend of inaccurate anime adaptions in Hollywood
Hollywood has a horrible track record when it comes to live-action anime adaptations. Whether it’s Netflix’s Cowboy Bebop or Death Note, all popular anime shows have been miserably adapted with inaccuracies from the original anime series. Only a few anime are perfectly adapted, such as Alita: Battle Angel (2019) and Pokémon Detective Pikachu (2019). Whether Pokémon Detective Pikachu (2019) is an anime adaptation or a video game adaptation is disputed.
Although the film is still in its early stages of development, Deadline reports that Paramount is probably looking at it for franchise viability, as they did with Transformers. Because new movies only imply more stuff to sell, and the toy series has sold hundreds of millions of units worldwide.
It is unspecified which version of the Beyblade anime series will be adapted for the film, whether it will be the original Beyblade or the equally popular Beyblade Metal Fusion. But it is inevitable that if the adaptation is flawless, it will reignite the fandom.
