RUSSIA: Putin addressed a large flag-waving crowd in a full Moscow stadium on Friday, praising his troops fighting in Ukraine three weeks into the invasion, which has resulted in higher-than-expected Russian casualties on the battlefield and increasingly authoritarian rule at home.
According to the White House, US President Joe Biden warned Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday that providing material backing to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine would have “consequences,” while both parties emphasized the need for a diplomatic solution to the problem.
While the White House did not specify what those implications may be or how the US would interpret “material support,” press secretary Jen Psaki suggested that China’s huge trade flows might be affected.
Meanwhile, India notified the UN Security Council that the Biological and Toxin Weapons Convention is important to it and that any issue relating to the convention’s requirements should be resolved through talks and cooperation between the countries involved.
It reaffirmed the necessity of outlawing the use of biological weapons that might turn the existing Russia-Ukraine conflict into a biochemical war, reiterating its position from the UN Security Council meeting last week.
