INDIA: The Kashmir Files is breaking records almost immediately after its release. The film debuted with a gross of ₹ 3.55 crore on its first day of release, and it has since created a trend of breaking box office records daily.
According to Indian film critic Taran Adarsh, The Kashmir Files has seen tremendous growth on its third release day. On Sunday, March 13th, 2022, the film had a 325.35 percent increase in revenue. The film’s box office collection had previously doubled with ₹ 8.50 crore on its second day, representing a 139.44 percent increase, the largest since 2020.
The Kashmir Files has shattered the records of many multi-starrer movies released in Pre-COVID and Post-COVID times, according to reports of 4th and 5th-day releases.
On Monday, March 14th, 2022, the film opened with a gross of ₹ 15.05 crore. While most movies fail to meet expectations on Monday, The Kashmir Files is breaking records. The film has surpassed the multi-starrer Sooryavanshi’s fourth-day record of ₹ 14.51 crore (2021).
Sooryavanshi had previously topped the box office charts. Alia Bhatt’s Gangubai Kathiawadi (2022) earned ₹ 8.19 crore on its fourth day, making it the second-highest after Sooryavanshi. After Gangubai Kathiawadi, Ranveer Singh’s 83 (2021), which was a box office debacle, came in third with ₹ 7.29 crore on its fourth day of release.
After the massive success of The Kashmir Files, the new 4th-day list goes as (Post COVID times):
- The Kashmir Files: ₹ 15.05 crores
- Sooryavanshi: ₹ 14.51 crores
- Gangubai Kathiawadi: ₹ 8.19 crores
- 83: ₹ 7.29 crores
It has also surpassed the previous record for pre-COVID releases. Tanhaji (2020) made ₹ 13.75 crores on its fourth day of release, whereas URI: The Surgical Strike (2019) made ₹ 10.51 crore. (via Taran Adarsh)
The Kashmir Files has also shattered the 5th-day records with 18 crores; the new list goes as:
- The Kashmir Files: ₹ 18 crores
- Sooryavanshi: ₹ 11.22 crores
- Gangubai Kathiawadi: ₹ 10.01 crores
- 83: ₹ 6.70 crores
The film also surpassed the pre-COVID release record on the fifth day. Tanhaji (2020) made ₹ 15.28 crore on its fifth day of release, whereas URI: The Surgical Strike (2019) made ₹ 9.57 crore. (via Taran Adarsh)
The Kashmir Files was developed on a budget of ₹ 20 crores and has already grossed ₹ 67.35 crores at the worldwide box office in just five days.
The film is written and directed by Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri, who has previously directed notable films such as Buddha in a Traffic Jam (2016) and The Tashkent Files (2019). Among his works, The Tashkent Files was a smash hit.
