UNITED STATES: Shawn Levy has been confirmed as the director of Deadpool 3. Levy has previously collaborated with Ryan Reynolds on the films such as Free Guy (2021) and The Adam Project (2022).
The announcement was then made official by the actor, who shared a funny poster depicting all of his previous personas from the Free Guy and The Adam Project. “The third film in my Shawn Levy trilogy will be a tad more stabby,” he captioned the poster.
Introduction of Deadpool in the live-action adaptation
Since its bizarre introduction in X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009), Deadpool has been a part of the X-Men franchise. Though the character had a faithful live-action rendition in 2016, which aided to normalise the R-rated genre in superhero films.
It has been a commercially and critically successful franchise with a collection of more than $1.5 billion, which continues the character’s legacy in the MCU following the merger of Disney and 20th Century Fox. The Merc’s with a Mouth is the only character from Fox’s X-Men series that will not be rebooted in the MCU.

Shawn Levy is a well-known director who has directed films such as Free Guy (2021), The Adam Project (2022), The Night at the Museum franchise (2006-2014), and Real Steel (2011). He has also produced and directed some Stranger Things episodes.
His directing style is characterized by a fusion of action and comedy, which is ideal for the character of Deadpool. It’ll be interesting to see how he approaches the third iteration of the Merc with a Mouth.
Will Deadpool 3 be R-rated?
Deadpool’s character will fall flat without violence and adult comedy, so Deadpool 3 must be an R-rated film. There’s no need to be concerned, as Kevin Feige has confirmed that Deadpool 3 will be the MCU’s only R-rated film.
Though it will be interesting to view how the character’s story continues in the MCU. There have also been rumors about Deadpool appearing in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Ryan Reynolds has also stated that he is not in the film, and we all know how actors deny their roles in movies nowadays, thanks to Andrew Garfield.
