AUSTRALIA: Shane Warne, Australia’s legendary leg-spinner and one of the greatest cricketers of all time, died of a suspected heart attack at the age of 52.

In 145 matches over a brilliant 15-year career, Warne grabbed 708 Test wickets, the second most of all time.

Warne was discovered unresponsive at his villa in Koh Samui, Thailand, on Friday, according to his management company.

“It is with great sadness that we inform you that Shane Keith Warne passed away as a result of a suspected heart attack,” they stated. “Despite the best efforts of medical staff, he could not be revived.”

Furthermore, they stated, “The family begs privacy at this time and will share additional details in due course.”

Between 1993 and 2005, Warne collected 293 dismissals in 194 one-day internationals, winning the World Cup in 50-over cricket in 1999.

Following Australia’s 5-0 Ashes clean sweep of England at home in 2007, he retired from international cricket, as well as first-class and List A cricket, with Hampshire.

Warne would play Twenty20 franchise cricket until 2013, when he would retire from all formats.

He worked as a broadcaster and pundit on a regular basis, as well as coaching T20 clubs.

This is the second tragic news for Australian cricket in the last 24 hours, with fellow great Rod Marsh passing away on Friday after suffering a massive heart attack last week.

In a tweet this morning, Warne expressed his condolences for his death.

After Warne’s death, the entire cricket fraternity expressed their condolences.
