INDIA: The Kashmir Files trailer initiates with an interview of Farooq Malik Bitta, played by Chinmay Mandlekar. We notice Bitta’s horrifying persona citing that he will kill his family members without hesitation when asked. The whole scene is taken from the actual interview of the real-life terrorist Farooq Ahmed Dar aka Bitta Karate.

Mithun Chakraborty’s persona defines the tragedy of Kashmir

Then we witness DGP Hari Narain (Puneet Issar) mentioning, “hum uske samne maazi ki Koi baat nahi karenge,” to which Vishnu (Atul Srivastava) replies, “Matlab no mention of exodus?” Then Brahma Dutt (Mithun Chakraborty) corrects him: “No, exodus Nahi genocide.”

The trailer later shows houses on fire, with Mithun Chakraborty’s character saying, “Kashmir jal Raha hai, khule am Kashmiri Hindu Ka katl-e-am hora hai”.

B. K Ganjoo, a telecom engineer, was killed by terrorists

The trailer then cuts to the most horrifying scene, in which we see terrorists firing at a rice container. After that, Bitta moves the blood-soaked rice to offer it to someone.

This real-life incident occurred with B. K Ganjoo, a Telecom Engineer. Ganjoo was relentlessly pursued by terrorists and to save his life he hid himself in the rice container. His neighbours revealed his hiding place to the terrorists. Following this, terrorists killed Ganjoo. Later, terrorists forced his wife to eat the blood-soaked rice.

Darshan Kumaar as befuddled youth

Then we see Pushkar Nath Pandit (Anupam Kher), saying to Krishna Pandit (Darshan Kumaar), “Jah Shiv Saraswati Rishee Kashyapa hue, who Kashmir Hamara hai, Jaha Panchatantra likha Gaya, who Kashmir Hamara hai, tu Janta hi kya hai Kashmir key bare me.”

The trailer then illustrates Radhika Menon (Pallavi Joshi) in a university, where she says, “Kashmir has never been an integral part of India, and this is a historical fact.” Darshan Kumaar’s character is also seen saying, “raliv galiv ya chaliv,” which means “convert. die or leave”.

Later, Krishna Pandit says “jab massum ladko ko gadiyo se bandh bandh Kar ghasita jayega, aur unpar rape charges lagaye Jayenge to satye hue log guns hi uthayege sir’’. To which Mithun Chakraborty’s character responds, “Kashmiri Pandito ne to Kabhi koi guns Nahi uthayi”.

Sharda Pandits character is based on a real-life woman, Girija Tickoo

At the end of the trailer, we see Sharda Pandit (Bhasha Sumbli) surrounded by terrorists. Her character is possibly based on a real-life woman, Girija Tickoo, who was gang-raped and brutally murdered by the terrorists.

Indian Columnist Sunanda Vashisth mentioned at a US Congressional hearing on Human Rights Council about the injustices faced by Kashmiri Hindus. Talking at the Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission, she said, “I am a member of the minority Hindu community from Kashmir valley in India, the victim of the worst ethnic cleansing witnessed in independent India. I speak here today because I am a survivor.”

“An innocent young woman, a lab assistant in a school, wasn’t as lucky as I was. She was abducted, blindfolded, gang-raped and she was cut into two halves on a mechanical saw. Her name was Girija Tickoo. Her only crime – her faith. I am her voice today,” she said.

The trailer brilliantly highlights every actor’s performance that emotionally tears us; their facial expressions define the pain felt by the Kashmiri Pandits.

The film is written and directed by National Award winner Vivek Agnihotri and will hit theatres on March 11, 2022.
