INDIA: BJP leader and former MP Kirit Somaiya was attacked in Pune Municipal Corporation by Shiv Sainik on Saturday. Somaiya has been pushed by Shiv Sena karyakarta.

In the melee, Somaiya fell on the stairs. Due to minor injuries, Somaiya was hospitalized for a medical checkup at nearby Sancheti Hospital, Shivajinagar. After being discharged from the hospital Sunday morning Somaiya blamed CM Uddhav Thackray for the attack.

Speaking to media on the occasion, Kirit Somaiya alleged that Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray had sent “goons” to Pune NMC.

BJP leader manhandled by Shiv Sena workers

BJP leader Kirit Somaiya came to Pune Municipal Corporation on Saturday to give a letter to Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar. He demanded an inquiry into the corruption in the work of Pune Municipal Corporation’s Jumbo Covid Center, but Shiv Sainiks blocked his way by protesting on the steps of the corporation.

In the melee, Somaiya fell on the steps. After that, the police took Somaiya aside and put him in the car. Even after the police put Somaiya in the car, the aggressive Shiv Sainiks attacked Somaiya’s car.

Before this high voltage drama, Somaiya had gone to Shivajinagar police station. There he reported a scam at Jumbo Covid Hospital. From there, he was coming to the Municipal Corporation to give a letter to the Commissioner in this regard. While Somaiya was getting out of the car and going to meet the commissioner, Shiv Sainiks stopped him on the stairs.

The attack on Somaiya had repercussions at the state and national levels. The attack was condemned at all levels.

“Is there law and order in the state? Can’t answer the allegations, so go straight to hooliganism? We obey the law. But that doesn’t mean hooliganism will be tolerated! Don’t consistently undermine democracy in Maharashtra. Strongly condemn the attack on Kirit Somaiya!,” tweeted opposition leader and former chief minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnvis.

Speaking to the media after being discharged from hospital Somaiya said, “Mafia chief Uddhav Thackeray had sent goons to stop me. The bullying that took place in the Municipal Corporation took place on the orders of Uddhav Thackeray. Uddhav Thackeray had given the contract to Sanjay Raut after his close associate and partner Sujit Patkar set up a fake company. If this is investigated, Uddhav Thackeray will be overwhelmed”.

“I am leaving for Delhi on Thursday. We have complained with Prime Minister Modi. He will also meet the Union Health Minister in this regard,” said Kirit Somaiya.

A case has been registered against seven to eight Shiv Sainiks at Shivajinagar police station, under sections 143, 147, 149, 341, 336, and 337. Meanwhile, On the eve of the forthcoming municipal elections, this incident has caused a great stir in the politics of Pune and Maharashtra.
