UNITED STATES: Francis Ngannou defeats Ciryl Gane via unanimous decision to successfully defend his UFC heavyweight title in the main event of UFC 270. This was Francis Ngannou’s first title defense. In the co-main event of UFC 270, Deiveson Figueiredo defeats Brandon Moreno via a unanimous decision to reclaim the UFC flyweight title.
Francis Ngannou vs Ciryl Gane
The UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou was defending his title against his former teammate the undefeated Ciryl Gane. The fight was one of the most anticipated heavyweight fights of this year as they both are the best heavyweights in the current UFC roster.
The fight started with Gane looking calm and composed. Gane was moving swiftly because of which he was limiting Ngannou’s offense. Gane landed one spinning back kick and one front kick in the first round.
In the second round, Ciryl Gane landed some heavy punches and he also landed a kick which fazed Ngannou a little. Francis Ngannou wasn’t fighting on his toes as he was fighting flat-footed.
In the last 3 rounds, Francis Ngannou showed his wrestling skills that we haven’t seen in his previous fights. Francis Ngannou became the first guy to take-down Ciryl Gane in his UFC career.
Ciryl Gane tried to kick Francis Ngannou but Ngannou slammed Gane right in the ground. Ciryl Gane outlanded Francis Ngannou on significant strikes as he landed 63 strikes compared to Francis Ngannou’s 43 strikes but Francis Ngannou landed 3 takedowns and his ground control time was 8 min and 29 secs.
After 5 rounds of war, the judges scored the contest 48-47, 48-47, and 49-46 in favor of Francis Ngannou who successfully defended and retained his UFC heavyweight title. This was Francis Ngannou’s first decision win in his 17 UFC fights whereas this was Ciryl Gane’s first loss in his MMA career.
