NIGER REPUBLIC. Niamey: At least 25 primary school children were killed and 14 injured when thatched-roof classrooms caught fire on Monday, the Council of Ministers said in a statement. Five of the surviving children are in critical condition. Classes have been suspended for three days of mourning.

A school in the city of Maradi, more than 600 kilometers east of the capital Niamey, caught fire. This is the second time this year that a fatal incident of similar dimensions has occurred. While awaiting the final release of the fire relationship, the Council added that after the two incidents, preschool classes will no longer be held in thatched-roof huts.
