INDIA. Mumbai: An Indian Air Force (IAF) Mirage 2000 trainer jet crashed off the Bhind district of Madhya Pradesh on Thursday morning, October 21st, while conducting routine training. The pilot ejected safely and landed near the village of Parasram Ka Pura. He had suffered minor injuries and is now recovering, a Bhind police spokesman said.
Authorities said that while the plane allegedly crashed due to a technical malfunction, a court of injury was ordered to investigate the cause of the accident.
Flight Lieutenant Abhilash took off from Gwalior Air Base at around 10 am and crashed about 70 km away from the airbase. When the accident occurred at the panchayat* in Babdi village, the villagers saw the jet fly over the fields and then gathered in large numbers at the scene. Some locals recorded video of the pilot landing safely using his parachute.
This is the second plane crash incident in Bhind. In 2019, an IAF training aircraft Mig-21 crashed in the Gohad field with two pilots on board: a group captain and a squad leader. Both pilots ejected safely.
Similarly, on August 25 this year, a MiG-21 crashed in the village of Bhutaria in the Barmer district of Rajasthan, during another routine outing. The pilot had also been safely ejected in that mishap.
