ZAMBIA. Lusaka: Zambian Archbishop, Moses Hamungole of the Roman Catholic Church has become the first high profile figure of the church to die of COVID-19.
Archbishop Hamungole of Monze diocese had announced two weeks before his demise that he had tested positive of the disease.
Before being appointed Bishop, Hamungole was Director of Vatican Radio in charge of Swahili and English programs.
He was born in 1967 in Kafue, Zambia, and attended St Augustine and St Dominic seminaries.

The Zambian Conference of Catholic Bishops appointed him Chairperson of its Communication Commission, a position held before his death.

From 2002 to 2009, Hamungole was president of SIGNIS, a global Catholic communications organization.
He was Secretary of Communications for the Association of Members of Episcopal Conferences of East Africa (AMECEA) from 2002 to 2009.
