14 New Cases Of UK COVID-19 Mutant Strain Reported In India

INDIA: India has recorded around 14 new cases of the new COVID-19 mutant strain this morning. With the new cases, the total number of cases has risen to 20. The new COVID-19 mutant strain was reported in the United Kingdom for the first time in September.

According to the reports, the new strain has been spreading fast and is believed to be more transmissible than its previous version. Due to this, India has declared the suspension of the flights from the UK till January 7 in a bid to contain the mutant strain. Last week, India had temporarily banned flights from the UK. Around thirty-three thousand passengers who had arrived from the UK between November 25 and December 23 are being traced.

Of the 20 cases of fresh COVID-19 strain, eight have been registered by a Delhi lab and a Bengaluru lab has recorded around seven cases. It is believed that the number of cases is likely to surge.

According to the health officials, Genome sequencing will be conducted on all international passengers who had tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 14 days. around ten laboratories across India will be carrying out the genome sequencing.

Along with India, Isreal, Canada, Japan, Pakistan, France, Spain, Switzerland, and many other countries have reported new cases of the new COVID-19 mutant strain.

The new virus strain is a matter of concern for the nation as it is still waiting for a vaccine to fight the highly infectious disease. A significant drop in the COVID-19 cases has also been seen recently after the country saw a peak in September.
